OCN Catch Up qualifications

The Catch Up Literacy training and Catch Up Numeracy training are accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) at Level 2. These nationally recognised qualifications are particularly appropriate for teaching assistants' Professional Development.

There are 3 units in each OCN Catch Up qualification (which have to be completed in order):

Catch Up Literacy

Unit 1 Delivering Catch Up Literacy training course (L2)

Unit 2 Delivering Catch Up Literacy to 2 learners over a period of 12 weeks

Unit 3 Catch Up Literacy Review and next steps session (L4)

Catch Up Numeracy

Unit 1 Delivering Catch Up Numeracy training course (N2)

Unit 2 Delivering Catch Up Numeracy to 2 learners over a period of 12 weeks

Unit 3 Catch Up Numeracy Review and next steps session (N4)

To gain the OCN Catch Up Literacy or Catch Up Numeracy qualification, trainees have to submit written evidence to show that they have successfully completed the assignments for each of the three units. This evidence is assessed to determine whether it is of the standard required by the qualification. The assignments for Units 1 and 3 are mostly completed as part of the training. The assignments for Unit 2 are based on the delivery of the Catch Up intervention to learners.

Each unit takes approximately 10 hours to complete (which includes time spent on the training courses).

NB Whilst the assignments are an integral part of the course, submitting them for OCN assessment is voluntary.

The cost of registration for the OCN Catch Up qualification is included in the cost of the training.

OCN Managing Catch Up Literacy qualification

This Managing Catch Up Literacy training is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) at Level 3 (OCN Programme ID: 116690).

There is one unit in the OCN Managing Catch Up Literacy qualification, which comprises:

  • attendance at the Managing Catch Up Literacy training session (known as L3)
  • attendance at 3 follow up meetings
  • submitting written evidence to show that the 6 assignments have been successfully completed. This evidence is assessed to determine whether it is of the standard required by the qualification.

NB Submitting for OCN assessment is voluntary (and can be in English or in Welsh).

The OCN Managing Catch Up Literacy unit takes approximately 10 hours to complete (this includes time spent on the training course). Each of the 3 follow up meetings should last about one hour and you will be expected to prepare for each meeting (taking approximately 30 minutes).

The OCN registration fee for the Managing Catch Up Literacy qualification is included in the cost of Catch Up Literacy training.
