Catch Up Numeracy training

All of the guidance necessary to deliver Catch Up Numeracy is available as part of an integrated training and resource package.

Who attends which sessions?
  • The staff who will deliver Catch Up Numeracy to learners attend N2 and N4
  • The member of staff who will manage the delivery of Catch Up Numeracy in school (or other setting) attends N1, N2, N3 and N4

Catch Up Numeracy training can be organised for staff from individual schools,
from clusters of schools or from other settings.

Catch Up Numeracy training in Wales

Bilingual Catch Up Numeracy training and Welsh-medium Rhifedd Dyfal Donc training is available. To access the bilingual or Welsh-medium training through the WJEC National Welsh and Welsh-medium Training programmes, please contact your local authority Inspector Adviser.

  
N1: Introducing Catch Up Numeracy

For Local Authority advisers, members of school Senior Management Teams and the member of staff who will manage Catch Up Numeracy in school (or other setting).

A 90 minute information session which gives an overview of Catch Up Numeracy and its implementation and management in school (or other setting). NB There is no charge for N1.

  
N2: Delivering Catch Up Numeracy

A boy participates in a Catch Up Numeracy sessionFor staff (including teachers, teaching assistants and carers) who will deliver Catch Up Numeracy to learners who struggle with numeracy and for the member of staff who will manage Catch Up Numeracy in school (or other setting).

Each trainee’s file includes all the guidance and proformas necessary to deliver Catch Up Numeracy. The 3 half day hands-on sessions cover:

  • background and research
  • assessing numeracy skills
  • delivering the Catch Up Numeracy Individual teaching session
  • ongoing monitoring

The time between each training session enables the trainees to complete short assignments and to practise the Catch Up Numeracy skills.

N3: Managing Catch Up Numeracy

For the member of staff who will manage Catch Up Numeracy in school (or other setting).
This 90 minute session considers in detail the effective management of Catch Up Numeracy in school (or other setting). It is usually held immediately after N2.

  
N4: Review and next steps

For those who have completed N2 and are experienced in delivering Catch Up Numeracy (including the member of staff who manages Catch Up Numeracy in school or other setting).

This one day course reviews the delivery of Catch Up Numeracy and gives further guidance on ‘Formative assessments’, ‘Numeracy activities’ and ‘Linked recording’. It will also introduce the Catch Up Numeracy online resources and digital games (when they become available).

  
Booking Catch Up Numeracy training

The Catch Up Numeracy integrated training and resource package costs £299 per trainee (minimum £2,990 – please click here if you would like to find out about joining with other groups). This includes:

  • N2, N3 and N4 (maximum 30 trainees per course)OCN Eastern Region logo
  • Trainer expenses
  • All the guidance and proformas necessary to deliver and manage Catch Up Numeracy
  • OCN accreditation fees
  • Membership of the Catch Up Community

NB There is no charge for N1 (minimum 5, maximum 75 trainees/delegates per session).

Over four years, in a typical school, the cost of Catch Up Numeracy works out to less than £120.00 per struggling learner.

Invoicing

The Catch Up Numeracy training is invoiced in two stages: the first at the time of booking, the second after N2/N3.
